Throughput of Commercial Port of Vladivostok by 5.8% to 3.87 million tonnes Januar-Aug 09

  • Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP OJSC) handled 3.869.6 million tonnes of cargo, the company’s production direction reports according to VMTP press center reports. In the reported period, cargo handling totaled 4.106.1 million tonnes (-5.76%, year-on-year).

    In the 8-month period, transshipment of export cargo amounted to
    2.702.5 million tonnes; import – 589,400 tonnes; coastal trade cargo –
    577,700 tonnes. The port’s container terminal handled 122,233 TEU
    including 44,057 TEU of coastal trade containers; 36,879 TEU of import
    containers and 41,297 TEU of export containers.

    In August VMTP handled 701,500 tonnes of cargo including 511,000 tonnes
    of export cargo; 98,400 tonnes of import cargo; 92,000 tonnes of
    coastal trade cargo. The port’s container terminal handled 17,944 TEU
    including 7,730 TEU of coastal trade containers, 4,935 TEU of import
    containers and 5,279 TEU of export containers.

    According to Sergei Lopunov, production director of Commercial Port of
    Vladivostok, export metal and oil coke make the core of the volume
    handled by the company. In August 2009, transshipment of export cargo
    was twice as much as in the previous August. In January-August, 2009,
    the volume of export cargo shipped by the company exceeded that of the
    previous year by 650,000 tonnes. With this dynamic in mind, VNTP is
    expected to handle 6 million tonnes of cargo by the end of 2009, the
    company says. “The port’s plan for 2009 set at 4 million tonnes was
    fulfilled by the end of the first decade of September,” Sergei Lopunov
    says. 

    Commercial Port of Vladivostok OJSC owns and operates the property
    complex of the port of Vladivostok, one of Russia’s largest ports in
    the Far East. Commercial Port of Vladivostok operates 17 berths
    including container, passenger, motor car specialized berths.

    Commercial Port of Vladivostok is a part of FESCO Transport Group. In
    2008, the company handled 5.915 million tonnes of cargo. 95.6% of VMTP
    shares belong to Market-Port LLC (Moscow).
