  • In January-August 2009, the port of Tallinn handled 20.775 million tonnes of cargo (+6.5%, year-on-year), the port’s administration informs. In the reported period,

    the port’s container throughput fell by 27.5%, year-on-year, to 88,434
    TEUs, transshipment of dry cargo increased by 12.4% to 2.256 million
    tonnes, liquid bulk cargo grew by 14.5% to 15,610 tonnes. Transshipment
    of Ro Ro cargo fell by 29.7% to 1,720 tonnes. Transit cargo made the
    core of the volume.

    The number of calls: 1,725 cargo vessels and 3,179 passenger vessels.

    Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport
    located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in
    1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St.
    Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 five constituent
    harbours: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and
    Saaremaa. In 2008, the port handled 29.077 million tonnes.
