The African Region is investing $ 43m to reduce pollution from ships in Lagos

African Cycle Pollution Management Limited has expended not less than $43 million in a determination to reduce ship pollution and cargo residue on the nation’s waters to create cleaner sea for shipping operation in Nigeria.
Already two of its four brand new vessels slated to do the jobs have berthed in Lagos
Vanguard was reliably informed that the Federal Government would
commission ultra modern waste reception ,storage and processing at the
Snake Island Integrated Free Zone in September this year.In addition the company is planning to invest another $25m over the
next three years to meet the needs of the nation in compliance with our
international commitments.Its Managing Director, Mr Emmanuel Ayodele explained that the company
had already installed G-Force Waste Oil processing plant and developed
land for Waste Reception end Processing Facility at the Snake Island
Integrated Free Zone.He added that two High Burn Techtrol Incinerators had been installed
with scrubbers.Ayodele listed achievement by the company between 2008
and 2009 as including: four Marpol Waste Recovery vessels with added
functionality of solid waste/garbage collection and first tier oil
spill response, installation of piles and supports for the 4 X 28O
liters tank farm for holding oil waste at Snake Island, four tanks at
the tank farms.Others are Drum Washing and Crushing Machine for metal drums, Drum
Sawing Machine for plastic drums, hazardous waster sorting area,
commissioned 15 5 tori Solid Waste collection trucks, signed Technical
Joint Venture Agreements with Mavi Deniz and Environmental Protection
Services of Istanbul Turkey for support on Oil Spill Response and
Environmental Services.He noted that the company had signed Technical Joint Venture Agreements
with Basarangemi Shipping Building and Repairs of Istanbul Turkey for
ship building support.He said: “We have installed Automated Control systems for Tanks, Piping
and G-Force plant, purchase and install Solid Waste 8 Man sorting
system with Magnet Metal Recovery Systems with specially designed
hoppers, 5OOKVA Power system, 2 sets of Compactors for Paper, Plastics
and Metals, a plastic granulating machine Sewage Treatment Plant
(2QQ,QQQ liters per day Capacity), 9 Install 4 Floating Hoses on
Reels for import and Export of Oil/Oil Waste at Snake Island.It would recalled that the Nigeria Ports Authority in 2004, as part of
the Federal Government Public Private Partnership Initiative, signed a
Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract with African Circle
Pollution Management Limited (ACPML) for the establishment and
Management of MARPOL Port Reception Facilities and for the Management
of ship generated waste and cargo residue at the four Navigational
districts of Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and Calabar as required by
MARPOL 73/78.The company which is a company incorporated in Nigeria with the main
aim of becoming the pioneer and Leader in comprehensive waste
management for the oil and gas industries of Sub Saharan Africa by
providing the necessary equipment systems and trained personnel to
achieve this while delivering the best and most efficient solutions for
