Russian tanker attacked by Somali pirates

Shipping News | September 24, 2009 | View Comments
  • A Russian tanker is still another one to be attacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, the Internet maritime bulletin reported on Wednesday, citing the information, received from one of the bulletin readers.

According to the data available, the Prisco Alexandra vessel belonging
to the “Primorye Sea Shipping Company” (PRISCO) was attacked September
    19. The pirates shot at the vessel and attempted to approach it and
climb aboard. But the captain began manoeuvring the ship and gave the
bandits no possibility to do it. Meanwhile the SOS signal was sent and
after a short period of time the military ship from the nearest
aquatorium arrived to the incident site, frightening off the sea
    pirates.

The Prisco Alexandra is flying the flag of Cyprus, the crew numbers 19, all of them Russian citizens.
