Jurong Port is working on increasing the client connections, productivity

Shipping News | December 10, 2009 | View Comments
  • JURONG Port is moving steadily to gear up for the future, while boosting alliances with existing customers. Leading shipping line and multi-purpose vessel operator Swire recently moved its multi-purpose operations to the port, while Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) have increased port calls.

From April to June this year, UASC had an average of 16 vessel calls
per month at Jurong Port, increasing to more than 25 calls in recent
months. Throughput is expected to increase by about 25 per cent as a
    result, Jurong Port said.

UASC also recently introduced the eight-vessel AMC1 Service as a joint
service by UASC and China Shipping Container Line, calling at the port.

Jurong Port is also spending about $1.4 million on 10 major projects to
be implemented over the next few years, which will lead to a 10 to 15
per cent improvement in vessel productivity.

    These include:

A new control centre that will serve as a nerve centre for general bulk
operations, enabling integrated operations management for berth
planning, cargo space planning and vessel productivity.

Mobile applications for data inputs to be updated through the use of mobile applications or PDAs.

Cashless transactions and business intelligence tools.

A cargo entry/exit tracking system and a conventional container tracking system.

    A possible new container yard.

An online master operations applications system.

A bulk cargo delivery system and bulk control room enhancement to
integrate operations management between the general bulk and container
    terminal control rooms.
