Irti earned accreditation for its course on the final exam, the Maritime Safety Management Systems
-
International Register Training Institute (IRTI) has earned IRCA approval as an approved training organisation, with IRCA accrediting IRTI’s training course on ‘Auditing maritime safety management systems’.
IRTI, which is a division of the classification society the
International Register of Shipping, trains class society and flag state
surveyors, ship owners, managers and seafarers and offers training
courses on basic safety, ISM code auditor training, maritime security
training and marine surveyor training. The London-based International Register of Certificated Auditors
(IRCA), which is part of the Chartered Quality Institute, is a global
benchmark for auditor training and training competence.Said Nassif, Managing Director of the International Register of
Shipping, said: “Merchant marine officers, particularly in the senior
ranks, are an ageing workforce and the ratings numbers will continue to
decline. Therefore training programmes need to take into account
seafarers’ preparations for more senior roles.“Safety and security management is an integral part of risk management.
It requires proactive hazard identification, risk management,
information control, auditing and training. Security in general is a
new field for most surveyors and port facilities, and security
management is related to asset management and physical security.”The IRTI also offers tailor-made specialist courses for commercial
companies. IRTI Chairman Julian Padilla said: “Each of the IRTI courses
has been developed under a quality system complying with ISO 9001:2008
requirements, so we know that our training qualifications are
recognised the world over.”The International Register of Shipping has more than 1,300 ships on its
register, with a combined gross tonnage of 7.3 million tonnes. It is currently authorized by 18 flag administrations to perform
statutory certification in accordance with many of the International
Maritime Organization’s conventions. With 15 offices across the world
and a presence in 90 countries through affiliated offices, the IRS has
a truly global presence. It is an independent classification society without the patronage of any particular flag administration.
Also independent of the IACS, IRS acts with impartiality and
objectivity as a self-regulating agency to the international marine
industry, with the mission of serving the public interest as well as
the needs of clients by promoting the safety and security of life,
property and the natural environment. The society does this by acting as a regulatory body governing the
development and verification of standards for the design, construction
and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities.Source: International Register Training Institute (IRTI)
