India imported 2.4 million t of coal in S. Africa October: sources

  • India imported 2.4 million tonnes of coal from South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in October, 35 percent of the total of 6.7 million tonnes, industry sources said.

    This compared with September’s 1.4 million tonnes, with India accounting for 34 percent of exports in that month.

    India has been the biggest single buyer of South African coal this
    year, accounting for 22-35 percent of monthly exports throughout the
    year.

    South Africa is expected to export around 60 million tonnes of coal in 2009.
