Van Oord awarded 45 million euro contract to the Brazilian port dredge

  • Van Oord has been awarded a contract to?deepen the harbour at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The contract value amounts to some Euros 45 million. The client is a ministry set up specifically to keep Brazil’s ports accessible for larger ships. Execution of the project will commence in 2010 and take almost a year to complete.

    Van Oord will dredge more than 4 million m3 of material in the access channel and harbour, ranging from soft clay to mudstone.

    The company will deploy a mid-sized trailing suction hopper dredger, its new backhoe Goliath, and two new self-propelled split barges, each?with a hopper capacity of 2,850m3.
