  • World oil prices advanced marginally in Asian trade Wednesday mainly on a report showing drop in US stockpiles.

Light sweet crude for December delivery was seen trading at $79.71 a
barrel at 11.00 a.m Singapore time while Brent crude was at $ 78.05 a
    barrel at the same time.

Analysts said gains in U.S. home prices plus an industry report showing
a drop in stockpiles bolstered optimism that the world’s largest energy
user is recovering from the worst recession since the 1930s.

American Petroleum Institute reported Tuesday that crude stockpiles in the U.S. declined 1 percent to 339.5 million last week.

On Tuesday, crude oil for December delivery rose 82 cents, or 1 per
cent, to $79.50 a barrel at the close of floor trading on the New York
    Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude increased 66 cents, or 0.9 percent, to end the session at
$77.92 a barrel on the London-based ICE Futures Europe exchange.

Oil prices have climbed 78 per cent this year and reached a one-year high of $82 a barrel on October 21.

Oil fell 2.3 percent on Oct. 26 when the dollar climbed, reducing
investor demand for commodities. The dollar was at $1.4819 per euro in
early Asian trade from $1.4804 Tuesday , when it touched $1.4770, the
    strongest level since Oct. 13.
