Inert Gas Systems highlight FPSO offshore Hamworthy expansion

Freight News | November 6, 2009 | View Comments
  • Four new FPSOs entering service with French super-major TOTAL feature Hamworthy Moss inert gas systems. Each vessel has a storage capacity of 2 million barrels; two of them will be based offshore Angola and the other two in Nigeria.

Commissioning of the inert gas system on DALIA FPSO has been completed,
while the already commissioned AKPO FPSO recently reached the ‘first
oil’ stage. Two further systems underwent full scale tests in Moss,
Norway, before delivery to PAZFLOR FPSO in June and to USAN FPSO in
    September.

All of these systems are skid-mounted and located in the topside
hazardous area. Hamworthy Moss’s scope of supply includes items such as
P/V breakers and control systems for all four installations.? Three of
the vessels will also feature Hamworthy deck water seals – on USAN FPSO
the deck water seal is replaced by a double block and bleed system.

“These packages are part of an FPSO’s topside installation, contrary to
the common belief that the inert gas system is usually located inside
an engine room and a part of the hull system,” said Odd Ivar Lindlov,
Manager of Hamworthy Moss offshore business unit.

Hamworthy specialists have extensive experience in supporting the
offshore exploration and production sector with environmentally
friendly, safe and efficient solutions. As well as FPSOs, these benefit
other vessels engaged in every stage of oil field development, from
exploration and construction through to production and maintenance,
including: seismic vessels, drillships, semi-submersible rigs/jack-up
rigs, gas carriers, and shuttle tankers.
