China, the seventh largest steel exporter position
It is reported that China became world seventh largest steel exporter in H1 2009. In the Q2 of this year, China became a net steel importer for the first time since Q4 of 2005. In Q2 2009, China imported 6.6 million tonnes of steel products while exported only 3.5 million tonnes with the import deficit reaching 3.1 million tonnes.
The accumulative steel export in H1 was 7.99 million tonnes down by
68%YoY that of import was 10.70 million tonnes up by 30%YoY. The total
steel import deficit in H1 reached 2.71 million tonnes. As for steel
export destinations, in H1 China steel export to EU shrank 81%, to
Asian neighbors down by 75%, to Middle East declined by 68% and to
North American fell by 51%. Among all the export destinations, only CIS
and Oceania regions saw some increase of China steel export. As for
import, steel resources from Asian countries decreased by 7% while that
from CIS region jumped sharply to 2.5 million tonnes from last year 0.2
million tonnes.
As for specific products, the import of semi steel products increased
by almost 26 times from pervious year, that of flat products swelled
2%, however that of longs shrank 14%YoY. In addition, China imported
166 million tonnes of iron ore in Q2, recording the history high. And
the accumulative iron ore import in H1 reached 297 million tonnes up by
29%YoY.

According to the data by National Bureau of Statistics of China, the nation crude steel output in July totaled 50.68 million tonnes up by 12.6%YoY, firstly breaking 50 million tonnes for monthly output. The daily output was posted as high as 1.635 million tonnes in that month, a little bit lower
