China steelmakers edition of SBQ plates decreases by 31 percent
According to the statistics of Mysteel, China steelmakers produced 14.0653 million tonnes of ship plates in all last year down by 30.6% or losing 6.202 million tonnes from 2008.
Industrial experts noted that under the hit of global financial crisis,
international demand shrunk in 2009 accordingly, China ship plate export
decreased heavily causing the output reduction. In addition, Korea, the biggest importer of China made ship plate,
abated their stock due to the short of liquidity. And, Korea steelmakers
enhanced their supply of ship plates to domestic users as they opened
their new production lines one after another. Korea moves led to large
decrease in ship plate export from China to Korea.During the year, China mill made adjustment in their product mix, giving
up part of the production of low value added and low quality ship
plates. It’s another reason why the output dropped. The data of Mysteel showed that China yielded 5.1692 million tonnes of
medium & high strength ship plates in 2009 up by 71.6% from 2008
with the occupation ratio up to 37% of the total ship plate output.Source: MySteel
