China new coal reserves of 2.23 billion tons from January to September

China’s coal resources carried their fast growth momentum into September when new resources of 275.664 million tons were added, up 18.6 percent on year and 1.1 percent on month.
The newly added coal resources from January to September accumulated to 2,223.545 million tons, up 13.1 percent on year.
According
to data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the country’s
coal output increased by 12.7 percent to 263.164 million tons in
September, bringing the total in the January to September period to
2.137 billion tons, up 10.3 percent on year.The following chart shows the monthly coal output of China since 2008, August.
Statistics
from the Chinese Customs showed that in September, China imported 12.5
million tons of coal, up 237 percent on year, and exported 2.02 million
tons, resulting in net imports of 10.48 million tons.Notably, after
setting the record-high of 16.07 million tons in this June, China’s
coal import has declined for two months. However, it rebounded in
September to 12.5 million tons from 11.77 million tons in August, up
6.2 percent on month and 237 percent on year and was believed to have
been boosted by a recovering economy and growing domestic coal demand.
The total coal imported accumulated to 85.7 million tons in the January
to September period.Coal exports were able to return to last year’s
level. In September, China exported 2.02 million tons of coal, down a
slight 2.88 percent on year but up 5.7 percent on month. Total coal
export reached 16.85 million tons from January to September of 2009.The
net import plus domestic production led to 273.644 million tons of the
nationwide net supply in September, up 18.8 percent on year.The net coal supply accumulated to 2,206.695 million tons from January to September, up 14.3 percent.

Taiwan, which imports all of its coal needs, increased purchases by 15 percent in September from a year earlier, as electricity producers raised shipments.
