Ansteel constructed of iron, steel output in each case more than 20 million t

  • Iron and steel output at Anshan Iron and Steel Group, China’s No.2 steelmaker and largest iron ore miner, for the first time exceeded 20 million tonnes for both pprducts in 2009, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission said.

    The statement on its website did not clarify whether it was referring to the parent company or listed arm Ansteel Corp.

    Ansteel’s steel output reached 20.13 million tonnes last year, while
    iron production stood at 20.51 million tonnes, both representing
    historical records, up around 25 percent from 2007.

    The company also produced 19 million tonnes of rolled steel last year, according to the statement.

    Ansteel President Zhang Xiaogang said in March last year that the
    company was targeting annual steel production at 45-50 million tonnes
    despite the downturn in demand.
